Default Questions about adding filters to a grid

Hi, I'm just getting started with ExtJS and adding a filter to my grids.

I don't feel happy with what I have so far but I'm not sure how to improve it.

    • I seem to be able to enter only a string and ExtJS sends the 'like' operator to the server. Is there anything within ExtJS that lets me specify 'contains', 'ends with', 'exact match', etc. or is on me to handle this at the server-side with wildcards? I see something like this exists for numbers.
    • When I enter filter text the menu closes automatically without giving me much time to think about what I'm entering. How can I have it wait until I press enter?
    • I'm thinking having the filter option in the menu is not really suitable for what I'm doing. I imagine users might want to apply filters frequently and going through this menu will take too long. Is there a way of having the filter as a permanent part of the grid?
