Default Parsing very large JSON files

I have a huge json file which shows the file system information for what will be an offline data archive. Extjs or Apache won't load the file because its too large. I am trying to load the data in a tree view but don't need or want to see everything at once, just the small subset somebody might want to see if they are looking for an old file of interest.

Is there a way to load data from the json file based on the expanded level of the tree? Realistically none would expand every single level, maybe only 1% which should be fine for loading.

Approximately how large are we talking about? What exactly do you mean by loading 1%?
