View Full Version : Ext Charts with no flash

I've seen a few forum discussions raising the issue of charts without flash. I've just started using the Ext chart api today and am very impressed. However, I need a fall-back position when flash is not installed. This is especially important because my organisation doesn't have flash installed by default and it could be a bit of a problem trying to get it installed.

I'm thinking of using Aaron Conran's user extension for google visualisations (http://extjs.com/blog/2008/10/13/google-visualization/) as a fall back. Before I dive into this I just want to check that I'm not barking up the wrong tree. I'm guessing the reason google visualisations was not adopted by Ext in the first place was because it's not as interactive or flexible as flash. So the question is: is this the best approach? Or maybe I should stick with the google visualisation in the first place and save the pain of having to switch between?

Just a heads up. You have to pay attention to the Data Policy for each of the Google Visualizations that you are intending to use. Some require that your data be sent to the Google Chart API Service. Some process and render in the browser and no data is sent.

That may or may not be a show stopper for you.

Have you seen the Flot ux?
